Our Story

Built in Winnipeg.
Designed for Climbers.

Two brothers turned a workshop and a passion for climbing into one of Canada's finest training tools.

Where It Started

From Daniel's Workshop to Canadian Gyms

Ascent Climbing was founded by brothers Jonathan and Daniel in Winnipeg, Manitoba — far from the mountains, but driven by them. Jonathan, a business strategist, identified a gap in the market: training tools were either cheap imports or industrial-grade equipment. Nothing felt intentional. Nothing bridged function and craft.

Daniel, a Red Seal carpenter with over 10 years of CNC woodworking expertise, had the skills to fill that gap. It started in his workshop — precision machines, raw hardwood, and an obsession with tactile quality. The result: the Cascade Hangboard. A training tool that feels like furniture. Built for climbers who appreciate both performance and design.

Daniel builds every Cascade by hand in our Winnipeg workshop. His Red Seal certification and 10+ years of CNC woodworking are why the board feels different the moment you touch it. Every edge is precise. Every surface is intentional.

Process

How We Build

Every Cascade is crafted through three distinct stages in our Winnipeg workshop, combining digital precision with handcrafted finish.

01

Design

Every edge radius and hold position is engineered for progressive training. CAD modeling ensures millimeter precision before a single cut is made.

02

CNC Machine

Premium hardwood is machined on our CNC router. This is where digital precision meets raw material — and where the hold geometry becomes real.

03

Hand Finish

Every board is hand-sanded and finished with natural oil. This is where craft takes over from machine — the final step that makes it feel right.

Built with Intention

Sustainably Sourced.
Nothing Wasted.

We partner with urban lumber suppliers to source hardwood that would otherwise go to waste. Every Cascade is made from sustainably harvested North American walnut, maple, or oak. We don't use plywood, particle board, or imported materials. What you hold in your hands grew within 500 miles of where it was shaped.
